First Icelandic Gaming Industry Awards Underway
The association Icelandic Gaming Industry (IGI) is planning the first ever IGI Awards in the field of computer game design. The prize will be presented to the winner of a competition which everyone can enter for free. Registration ends late next month.
Throughout the competition, IGI will organize monthly presentations where participants can learn about the main aspects of game designing from the country’s foremost specialists in the gaming industry. Three presentations have already taken place, which can be watched on YouTube.
The grand prize is an HP Touchsmart IQ522sc multimedia computer with a touch screen from Opin kerfi, free enrollment to a course at Vidskiptasmidjan for the 2010 winter term at Klak Innovation Center on how to launch new businesses, free use of facilities at the Innovation Center Iceland for six months, books on managing and product development and support from IGI to create the winning game.
Those who are interested in participating in the competition can register at the website of IGI and join the IGIA10 group. The next presentation takes place on February 13.

A series of meetings about the Icesave dispute ended in The Hague in the Netherlands on Friday. The representatives of Iceland, the Netherlands and the UK discussed the matter on Thursday and Friday but came to no decisive conclusion.

Attentive commuters in the capital region have noticed strange behavior among some people on roundabouts lately. Police say these people are likely picking psilocybin mushrooms, which is an annual event at this time of year, and not strictly illegal.

Jónsi Nominated for World Soundtrack Awards
Singer-songwriter Jónsi of Sigur Rós has been nominated for the 2010 World Soundtrack Awards for the best originally composed song in a movie. The nomination is for the song “Sticks & Stones” which is in How to Train Your Dragon.

Emails Indicate Fraud in Sterling Air Transaction
Emails between the management team at FL-Group seem to indicate that assets sold to Northern Travel Holding (NTH) at year end 2006 were overvalued on purpose to deceive stakeholders about the real condition of the companies involved in the transactions. Among the assets being transferred were the Danish budget airline Sterling and Iceland Express.
