Re Katharina Hauptmann's piece "On Iceland's Beer" and her statement that "there will never ever be such a thing as Icelandic wine":

It may possibly be true of grape wine from grapes grown in the open, but there are many fruits and vegetables from which wine can be made. In particular, I have heard that good wine can be made from white currants, and I would be surprised if they are not grown successfully in Iceland.
