Iceland Airwaves Friday Night

Friday night at Iceland Airwaves… What can be said?

This whole week I‘ve was at work during the day but I‘ve tried my best to catch as many off-venue gigs as possible. But it was Friday so my tolerance for work was limited to 3PM. And where was the best place to start? Kex of course!

Iceland Airwaves Friday Night

Agent Fresco started us off with a powerful display as usual. I’ve tweeted many times for the past months about their insanely great new album – Destrier – and I sincerely urge you to grab a copy while you’re here. And when you have done so, listen to See Hell over and over and over and over.

The great thing about this festival is all the amazing people you meet. This is what I love most about being here. After seeing Agent Fresco we stuck around chatting with this lovely Canadian couple who sat next to us during the gig. We ended up doing that for an hour and pretty much planning their whole trip around the country.

We hopped between a few off-venue gigs but our journey was always headed to the Reykjavik Art Museum. The lineup there was all the Icelandic rap all-star team – Sturla Atlas, Emmsjé Gauti, Gísli Pálmi and Úlfur Úlfur accompanied by the grime brothers Skepta and JME.

Holy crap the party was insane! Emmsje Gauti had the crowd jumping, Gísli Pálmi had everyone’s hand in the air (because they’re on the substance as the song goes) and Úlfur Úlfur had us singing at the top of our lungs. The Icelandic hip hop scene has exploded this year

After the Art Museum we ran over to NASA to see Ho99o9. Excuse my language but holy shit! The raw energy they put into their set is just amazing and they never stop. I think one of the singers spent at least half of the show out in the crowd, getting hammered to pieces in the moshpit. This is the sickest live show that I have seen. I feel like I don’t have to ever see a concert again!

My voice is completely gone, my head is thumping from the 40 beers that I think I drank last night, and my feet ache from standing upright for like 10 straight hours. But I still couldn’t be more pumped for the Saturday night!
