Ready, set, go! The Colour Run will be taking place in downtown Reykjavík this Saturday, June 9, starting at Hljómskálagarður. So dust off your running shoes and start warming up your smiling muscles. The Colour Run is not your average run, as there are no timers and no winners. It’s all about having fun!

Family fun
The first Colour Run was organised in 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona and the mission of the run is generating happiness and bringing people together. In 2015, it was organised in Iceland for the first time and it was an instant hit. The rules of this colourful family event are simple. You start out in a white T-shirt, you run for 5km, and you reach the goal in all the colours of the rainbow. After every kilometre you run, there’s a colour station where you’ll be blasted with a brightly coloured powder. If friends and family want to support you, they can buy even more powder packages if they feel you aren’t quite colourful enough.

Promoting a healthy lifestyle
It’s a Colour RUN, so, of course, there’s some running involved, although it may not be quite what you’re used to. You won’t be timed, and nobody cares who is the first one to reach the finish line, it’s all about enjoying yourself with your running buddies and all the endorphins the running releases. In fact, The Colour Run prides itself on promoting a healthy attitude towards running and an active lifestyle, it’s not about reaching the finish line, it’s about the run itself! The Colour Run is known as the happiest 5km on the planet because the whole experience is about celebrating with friends, family, whoever else is running with you, or just yourself. It’s all about happiness, enjoying yourself and being healthy, what’s not to love?

Picture-perfect party
Before the run, there is a surprise live act to get everybody in the mood. And even though it’s not about the race, it’s still a great feeling to reach the goal after a 5km run and it’s something to celebrate. After the race, there will be an afterparty with even more colour bombs! All runners of all colours of the rainbow are invited to join in the fun. Not unimportant, it’s the perfect occasion to snap that new Facebook picture or the perfect Instagram shot. Running and partying is going to be amazing, but we all know the universal truth: pics or it didn’t happen.
