Laugarás Lagoon is a new geothermal spa in South Iceland and judging by the photos, the design is top notch, fitting seamlessly into the green foresty surroundings. The design and concept was focused on keeping everything as natural as possible, with a low-profile building blending into the landscape. The roof is covered with native grass and the building’s arches inspired by lava caves of the region. The location Laugarás is known for geothermal energy and serence landscape.
Laugarás Lagoon is intended to be a place where people can slow down and reconnect with nature. It is around 1.5 hour drive from Reykjavík. The new spa includes two steam rooms, a hot and a cold pool and a restaurant. The ingredients are locally sourced from various nearby small producers.
Builiding the lagoon was a three billion ISK investment for the 1,000 square meters across two levels. It also boasts a 7 meter wide man-made waterfall as well as a view over the nature made river Hvítá.
The opening fits well to autumn when the weather is turning, temperatures drop and people want to get cozy and warm.
