Álafoss Store

Álafoss opened its first wool factory at the end of the 19th century and was one of the first wool companies in Iceland. Álafoss is named after Álafoss waterfall in Mosfellsbær which was used to drive the mills of the wool factory right next to it. There’s still an Álafoss factory shop in Mosfellsbær, but now, you can also go to the brand-new Reykjavík location to buy your traditional Icelandic sweater, knitting wool yarn, woollen blankets, and hats and mittens. You can find the Álafoss store at Laugavegur 4-6, inside the building that also houses the newly opened ice bar Magic Ice Reykjavík.

Tíu Sopar

Wine bar Tíu Sopar recently opened on the former location of much-loved coffeehouse Tíu Dropar that had to close down in 2016. Tíu Sopar offers natural wines and focuses on small batch winemakers. They sell a good selection of wines by the glass, with 10-12 wines on offer at any time, as well as a growing list of fairly priced quality bottles. They also have a food menu of small courses, charcuterie, and other wine-friendly dishes, all served to share. The kitchen is open as long as the bar, so it’s the perfect spot for a late-night bite.
