Let us tell you about restaurants, bars, shops, and more that are New in Reykjavík in May 2019. This month: Skjaldbakan pizzeria, new stores in the Hafnartorg area, Kringlan Food Hall, and Böbblís.
Who doesn’t love pizza? With the opening of Skjaldbakan pizzeria at Grandi Mathöll, you can give into your pizza cravings without feeling guilty. They offer two types of pizza crust, one keto (low-carb) crust and one sourdough crust, and a selection of delicious fresh toppings to choose from. You can pick and mix your own pizza, or order one from the menu! Their crunchy keto pizzas are especially popular. Of course, they have beer, sodas, and coffee to go with your order. Check this place out next time you’re in the Grandi area!
New stores in Hafnartorg
You can now shop at GK Reykjavík and Cos in one of Reykjavík’s newest shopping areas, Hafnartorg. GK Reykjavík is a fashion store selling clothes for Reykjavík’s hippest, with brands like Acne Studios, Anine Bing, Tiger of Sweden, Kenzo, and Calvin Klein. Cos is H&M’s more high-end sister brand. They opened a two-storey store of 700m2 close to the H&M store that was already located at Hafnartorg. At Cos, you will find timeless and practical designs. With these additions, Hafnartorg is one step closer to being complete.
Kringlan Food Hall
Kringlan expanded its food court and now has its very own modern food hall section. Five food trucks opened their doors there recently. Fjárhúsið offers lamb-based Icelandic cuisine, Kore serves Korean street food, Jömm has vegan fast food on the menu, Tókýó Sushi offers fresh sushi, and Halab Kebab sells kebab and falafel wraps. While Fjárhúsið, Kore, and Tókýó Sushi are also found at different locations, Jömm and Halab Kebab are exclusively located at Kringlan.
Have you heard of Hong Kong bubble waffles? If not, then you should change this as soon as possible. Böbblís is the first place in Iceland serving the sweet Hong Kong-inspired desserts. At Böbblís, you can order a fluffy egg waffle shaped like a cone filled with ice cream and all the toppings you like. You have to make a small detour to get this treat, though, as they’re located in Hafnarfjörður, a 15-minute drive from downtown Reykjavík. Believe the buzz, it’s worth it!
