All You Need to Know About Day Tour Pick-Up and Drop-Off Points in Reykjavík

When you’re planning your vacation in Iceland, you notice how many amazing day tours you can choose from. Are you booking a Golden Circle tour, a visit to the Blue Lagoon, or do you want to explore the south coast? Many day tours cover these destinations and are an easy and relaxed way to explore Iceland. When you book a day tour, there’s one thing you should know, and that is that there are designated pick-up and drop-off points for tourist coaches in Reykjavík. You can recognise them by their bright pink and blue colours.

In this article, we will tell you a little bit more about Reykjavík’s tourist bus stops.

This is what a day tour pick-up and drop-off point looks like.

Traffic ban

In downtown Reykjavík, there’s a traffic ban for tourist buses and coaches of any size, vehicles with group licenses, and vehicles like super jeeps. Big tour buses are not allowed to drive just anywhere. Therefore, if you’ve booked a day tour or airport transfer, your bus will leave from a designated pick-up point. These bright pink and blue bus stops are located in the downtown area and easily accessible. You should find one near your accommodation in the city centre. Plan your route to your nearest bus stop beforehand. In this way, we keep Reykjavík’s centre safe and clean!

Big coaches like this are not allowed to drive anywhere in downtown Reykjavík.

Don’t use the Strætó bus stops

Around the city, you will find one other type of bus stops, and those are the ones from public bus company Strætó. You can recognise these bus stops by their blue signs with a yellow bus on them. Your day tour pick-up point will never be a Strætó bus stop, so make sure you wait at a blue and pink sign instead!

This is a city bus. These buses will never take you on a day tour.
