Reykjavík Arts Festival 2024 - Sea Monsters

Reykjavík Arts Festival 2024 Starting This Week

Reykjavík Arts Festival will start on Saturday (1 June) and run until 16 June. It is a biennial multidisciplinary festival with focus on new commissions and the creative intersection of the arts. It offers exhibitions and performances of contemporary and classical works from all corners of the world in major cultural venues as well as unconventional spaces throughout the city. The complete programme is available here and you can also find individual events in our Reykjavík Events Calendar. Tickets are now available for all ticketed events but the festival also offers a wide variety of free events.

Highlights this year include The Sea Monsters, DAGADANA, Lise Davidsen and Jacob Collier. The Sea Monsters will be down by Reykjavík harbour (Midbakki) on June 1 at 1 pm. The incredible creatures will arrive at Reykjavík harbour in a brand new large-scale Icelandic street theatre for all ages. The event is free of charge and with good access for wheelchair users on the pavements.

DAGADANA see themselves as musical ambassadors, exchanging music and art from all over the world. They have performed in the Moroccan desert, China’s Forbidden City and at Glastonbury Festival before joining in Reykjavík.

Soprano Lise Davidsen will perform at Harpa Concert Hall at 20:00 on 1 June. New York Times described her as “the voice of the century”. Her concert in Reykjavík will feature a diverse programme including works by Puccini, Sibelius and Schubert. Multi-award winning pianist James Baillieu will accompany Davidsen.

Jabob Collier will perform at a concert in Harpa on 16 June at 20:00. He is a six-time Grammy award winner and has performed with artists such as Coldplay, Brandi Carlile, Hans Zimmer and Alicia Keys. His creative output has brought together the worlds of jazz, sould and R&B along with pop and classical music.
