Land Beyond the Sea – Finnish artists in Iceland

The Land Beyond The Sea deals with fantasies that Finns and others have about a land beyond the sea. Is this a mythical paradise, a desert island, or a new life? What kind of place awaits us in our dreams or faraway. Iceland is halfway between Europe and America on the journey towards the sunrise. It is a land beyond the sea, but is it a paradise or in some other way a fascinating land of dreams? At the same time, the exhibition presents to the Icelandic public with the dreams and interpretations that Finnish artists have about distant, imaginary places.

The Land Beyond The Sea is an exhibition curated by Juha-Heikki Tihinen of works by Finnish artists, whose art is linked to various utopias, to Finnishness and to lands beyond the sea.

The exhibition is multimedial and produced by the Pro Artibus Foundation. The artists are: Erik Creutziger, Marjo Levlin, Carl Sebastian Lindberg, Susanna Majuri and Pauliina Turakka-Purhonen.
