Vegvísir – Compass – Concert
Sunday 16 February vocalist Anna Sóley Ásmundsdóttir performs in a concert in Björtuloft on the top floor in Harpa. She is accompanied by Mikael Máni Ásmundsson, guitar
Birgir Steinn Theodorsson, double bass and
Magnús Trygvason Eliassen, percussion.
Anna Sóley has a diverse musical background and the evening´s program is a colourful one. Standards, Modern Jazz, experiential improvisation, soulful sounds and her own songs of course.
Anna Sóley Ásmundsdóttir began playing the violin at an early age and at eighteen she finished the sixth grade from The College of Music in Reykjavik, where she then she began to study singing with Þórunn Guðmundsdóttir and Hlín Pétursdóttir Behrens. She was fascinated by Jazz music and took private lessons with Jazz singer Kristjana Stefánsdóttir, before entering the FÍH Jazz Academy in Reykjavík, where teachers were Ragnheiður Gröndal and Guðlaug Ólafsdóttir. The program of the graduation concert in 2016 was largely built around her own compositions. Anna Sóley currently studies jazz and pop singing with Izaline Calister at hte ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem in the Netherlands, as well as focussing on her own song-writing.
The Harpa Welcome Home series is hosted by the Icelandic Musicians Association and introduces Icelandic music students who have recently graduated or are still studying abroad, to audiences at home.
