Toronto Symphony Orchestra in Harpa

Toronto Symphony Orchestra will be appearing in Eldborg, Harpa‘s main hall on 24th August at 19:30.

This is a major event in Icelandic cultural life. James Ehnes will be performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, one of the most celebrated violin concertos in history. The conductor Peter Oundjian and Ehnes are both Canadian and world class musicians. Since the beginning of Peter‘s Music Directorship with the TSO, Peter has become an integral part of the rebirth of the orchestra. He has established an annual celebration of Mozart; created the hugely successful New Creations Festival; launched TSO LIVE, a self-produced recording label with eight releases to date along with many other achievements.

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra developed an international presence through a history of touring to venues in the United States, Europe, and Asia, including a groundbreaking trip to China in 1978 as the first Canadian orchestra to be invited to enter China after the Cultural Revolution. Throughout its history, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra has welcomed some of the greatest international artists, including Martha Argerich, Maxim Vengerov, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Evgeny Kissin, Kathleen Battle, Jessye Norman, Karen Kain, Maureen Forrester, Lang Lang and actor Christopher Plummer.

Toronto Symphony soloist will also be appearing in smaller chamber events in Harpa on Culture Night on the 23rd August which will give insight to the excellence that will be delivered the following day.
